Then I Met You Skincare Brand Product Reviews Timestamps
00:00 Introduction
00:31 Birch Milk Refining Toner
02:29 The Giving Essence
05:03 Calming Tide Gel Cream
07:25 Soothing Tea Cleanser
09:01 Living Cleansing Balm
11:07 Honey Dew Lip Mask

Birch Milk Refining Toner: $32, pH 4
-A Nice affordable alternative to this is the Peach & Lily Good Acids Pore Toner
– No denatured alcohol
-Does contain fragrance- wintergreen extract, rosa damascena
– Beneficial Ingredients: Tree Sap, sodium hyalyronate, glycolic acid, lactic acid, squalane, shea butter, marshmellow, glucolactone, trehalose, olive oil
Acnegenic Ingredients: squalane, Olive Fruit Oil
Verdict: I found this to be an okay gentle exfoliating toner, but for a toner to be truly gentle I expect it to be fragrance free!
At SokoGlam:

The Giving Essence: $50, pH 5
– An affordable alternative to this is the TonyMoly Vital Vita 12 Moisture Ampoule
-No denatured alcohol
-Color is from Gardenia Jasminoides Fruit Extract, which is used as a colorant in products
-No fragrance ingredients
-Beneficial Ingredients: Galactomyces Ferment, Aspergillus Ferment, Saccharomyces Ferment, Niacinamide, Aloe, Ellagic Acid, Black Chokeberry, Polyglutamic Acid, Algae Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Mulberry, Allantoin, Holy Basil, Black Currant, Rubus Coreanus, Turmeric, Lycium Chinense, Licorice extract, Blackberry, Raspberry, Betaine, Bilberry, Maqui Fruit, Acai, Blueberry, Aloe, Eggplant, Neem Extract, Purslane
-No acnegenic ingredients
-Verdict: This is a quite nice essence, probably my favorite product from TIMY. Hydrating, helps with skin brightening a bit and nice antioxidants.
At SokoGlam:

Calming Tide Gel Cream: $42
-An Affordable Alternative to this is the Purito Centella Unscented Recovery Cream and the D’Alba Piedmont No Sebum Repair Cream
-Does not contain denatured alcohol
– Does contain fragrance from Bergamot Oil and hibiscus extract
– Beneficial Ingredients: Niacinamide, Ceramide, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Sodium Hyaluronate, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Madecassoside, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Adenosine, Coptis Japonica Extract, Betaine
-Acnegenic ingredients: carbomer
-Verdict: Really nice texture, probably geared towards oily skin that is non-sensitive to fragrance. Not hydrating enough for my dry skin, but does work well under another thicker moisturizer. Must admit, I did not find this to be very calming or help with redness.
At SokoGlam:

Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel, $36, pH 6
-An Affordable Alternative to this is the Pixi Clarity Cleanser or the Peach & Lily Power Calm Cleanser
-T Butyl Alcohol is near the end of the ingredient list
-Does contain Tangerine Peel Oil for fragrance
– Beneficial Ingredients: Sorbitol, Tea Tree, Licorice Root, Willow Bark, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cocoa Extract, Centella, Green Tea, Panthenol, Glucolactone.
– No acnegenic ingredients
-Verdict: This is a decent cleanser, would use it much more if it didn’t contain the tangerine fragrance. Leaves skin feeling clean but not dry or stripped.
At SokoGlam:

Living Cleansing Balm, $38
-An Affordable alternative is the Jordan Samuel After Show Treatment Cleanser (as well as Hanskin Cleansing Oils)
-No denatured alcohols
-Does contain fragrance from Grapefruit Peel Oil, Rosewood Oil, and Rosemary Oils
-Beneficial Ingredients: olive oil, grape seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, babassu oil, vitamin E
-Acnegenic ingredients- olive oil, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil
Verdict: This does a good job removing sunscreen, makeup, mascara without leaving skin feeling dry. Doesn’t bother my eyes. Definitely needs to be followed up with a second step cleanser because this does have a tendency to leave a bit of residue. For the price I wasn’t blown away…
At SokoGlam:

Honey Dew Lip Mask, $22
-Alternative is the Tarte Sea Jelly Glaze Lip Mask
– No denatured alcohol
-Does contain fragrance/aroma
-Beneficial Ingredients: synthetic wax, melon fruit, sodium hyalyronate, avocado oil, squalane, lactic acid, vitamin e, olive fruit oil, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, honey
-Verdict: This is a nice lip product, hydrating, wish it was a little thicker because I find this soaks in after a couple hours then I find myself reapplying. Overall a good product though.

  1. Olina Young says:

Have heard stuff about the lines founder in passing but still curious to hear about this line! Thanks Sarah 💕🔥💕🔥!!

  2. Max Mm says:

Their cleansing balm is amazingly popular. Everybody is raving about it but it's expensive for a cleanser. I would rather choose Clinique TTDO or Beauty of Joseon cleansing balm

  3. Viiu B says:

Thanks for reviewing these! I have only tried the moisturizer and ended up tossing it because the smell pas so irritating. It wasn’t all that hydrating and didn’t absorbe well. Just kind of sat on the skin.

  4. Rachel Warren says:

I bought the cleansing balm and also wasnt blown away – it leaves a lot behind, so I always have to use a washcloth to remove before the 2nd cleanse.

  5. Loan Nguyen says:

Thanks for the review it's lots abit of appeal for me, always have my eye on these as I receive soko glam emails but they r so prices and shipping to Australia is expensive if I remember around 40aud they need to do minimum spend and free shipping.

  6. Robin Currin says:

Favorite is the cleansing balm. It just feels like a personal luxurious pamper moment and a little goes a long LONG way so I do splurge on this one.

  7. Lisa Dreisch Miller says:

I had heard SO much hype about the cleansing balm so I bought it and have been using it for the past month. And… I don't get it? I think I liked my Banila Co. one better, and it was much cheaper for a larger container.

  8. cathy xo says:

Thank you for review!! I’ve only tried their cleansing balm mini, but never tried other TIMY products bc it’s expensive 😅 I’m debating if I should buy the full size of the cleansing balm though, or I should repurchase farmacy green clean.. since I can get that on sale lol 🤔

  9. Robb says:

Wow this brand seems kinda pricy and doesn’t seem like you get a lot for the price. Gotta pass on these. There’s so many other good options out there.

  10. RStevens says:

Glad to hear you like the Cleansing Balm – it’s on my list. I assume the colour maybe comes from the Sea Buckthorn oil? But honestly, I appreciate that some people can’t tolerate fragrance etc but for me a cleansing balm or oil that is fragrance-free is just… pleasureless 😀😀 cleansing should be an experience and unless you’re allergic or highly sensitive to it, everyone should enjoy a bit of fragrance at least in their cleansing product. I have The JS Aftershow cleanser for sensitive skin and it feels amazing but zero scent… a bit unenjoyable to use haha! But it is a great product overall

  11. wendy Dyer says:

I've always wondered if the texture of this cleansing balm is similar to the Elemis superfood cleansing balm. Anyone know?

  12. Kim B says:

Hi Sarah. I’ve tried the balm , gel cleanser, toner, and essence. I enjoyed all but would not repurchase due to cost and not included in soko glam sale. Also, many other products available that are more price and sensitive skin friendly. I did enjoy the lush texture of the balm, and only balm I’ve found similar is deviant skincare. But it too is expensive ( no essential oils , though)

  13. Liz Krusenstjerna says:

Hi Sarah! I had that cleansing balm in my Soko Glam basket and was going to do an order taking advantage of the 30% off site-wide November sale but when I went to apply the code TIMY was excluded. This soured me on the whole deal as the cleansing balm was the most expensive thing in my basket, and I never did place the order. With a bazillion five-star reviews and a bunch of awards, I was momentarily overcome with a compulsion to buy. Now I am glad I didn't get it as you are clearly not overly thrilled with this brand. Plus I am not into fragranced products these days (not because I have sensitivities but because I just find it unnecessary and superfluous), which is weird because in the past I have used and loved Farmacy's Green Clean as well as Dr Hauschka's Day Lotion and they've got all kinds of fragrance and/or essential oils in them. I guess my skincare aesthetic is evolving!

  14. laurence apitz says:

Thank you so much for this review, Sarah, I have been very interested about these products, but I prefer to have your opinion first …
Someone gifted me the lip mask and I didn’t like it at all. After this review, I will leave it at that.

  15. Loraine Mcgillivray says:

This brand just doesn't appeal to me tbh. Pretty packaging, but fragrance and too expensive for what it is. The cleansing balm is the only thing that I've seen get any hype and cleansing balms are not something I want to spend a lot on. Just a big fat no for me I'm afraid. You didn't sound all that enthusiastic about it either lol and when you love skincare so much that's very telling. It's another Tatcha – too expensive, fragrance and all about the packaging it seems to me. Most brands have at least one product I would like and here the essence is probably the one, but truthfully it's an expensive smaller than average bottle and I don't need it. Best wishes.

  16. Fuzzyjembud says:

TIMY & Glow Recipe seem a bit overpriced to me, so I haven’t tried any of their products. Especially when companies like Deciem, Good Molecules, and the Inkey List exist (also Geek & Gorgeous, Timeless, and Face Theory).

  17. Sheresse ONeill says:

I really enjoy the TIMY cleansing balm and gel. I alternate days between using those and Glow Recipe balm and gel. The lip mask is nice but I can’t use it alone, I almost think of it as a lip serum. I put it on wait for it for sink in a bit then layer something more occlusive on top like the Biossance lip balm.

I personally had a really bad reaction to the toner and essence, I honestly don’t know what it was but their customer service was super nice about it.

The gel moisturizer is ok but super expensive, just not worth it. I rather put that much money into a good serum

  18. Jessie L.D says:

Thanks for the review! I’ve tried the cleansers and the lip mask (I once bought them in a drunken online shopping spree. Don’t ask me why, but I’m suddenly all about self-care and caring for others when I drink rofl), but I haven’t tried the rest of the line. This just reminds me how uninterested I was in that toner. Don’t think I’ll be buying it. I’m definitely interested in that essence, though. As for my fave, I really liked the cleansing balm. I’ve repurchased it a few times while cringing at the price. The cleanser I found was so-so/average. I don’t even remember how I felt about the lip mask, but it must have not been good if I can’t remember it lol.
